Occasionally you may also have diarrhea or vomiting, but not always.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most with moderate symptoms can convalesce at home. If you do get the flu and fall into a high-risk group (the elderly, infants and people with immune disorders) or experience severe symptoms, go to your doctor within 48 hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, for children, you should seek medical care if they experience fast or trouble breathing, bluish skin color, not drinking enough fluids, not waking or interacting or have fever with a rash. For adults, you should seek medical care if you have difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, dizziness, confusion or vomiting. For a lethargic child, or anyone with sever symptoms like difficulty breathing, chest pain or confusion, go to the Emergency Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prevention<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to a flu shot, the CDC recommends these tips to help prevent the flu:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid contact with people who are sick.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are sick, stay home from school or work to avoid infecting others. Stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone without fever-reducing medicine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the used tissue in the trash and wash your hands.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wash your hands often with soap and water throughout the day or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects (door handles, computer keyboard, cell phone) that may be contaminated with germs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section id=\"covid\" class=\"shs-block block-section grid-container has-blue-primary-background-color\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"entry-content\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">COVID-19<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Patients who have any known coronavirus symptoms such as&nbsp;fever, chills or shaking; cough or sore throat; shortness of breath; muscle aches or pains; loss of smell or taste; headache or any cold or flu-like symptom<strong>s<\/strong>&nbsp;are asked to call their primary care provider or visit a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/samhealth.org\/health-services\/all-services\/urgent-care-walk-in-care\/\">Samaritan walk-in clinic<\/a>&nbsp;to be assessed and routed to appropriate <a href=\"https:\/\/samhealth.org\/health-services\/vaccines-prevention\/get-tested-for-covid-19-2\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"10522\">testing<\/a> and care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prevention<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to getting the vaccine and basic health and hygiene practices like handwashing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improving ventilation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Getting tested for COVID-19 if needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Following recommendations for what to do if you have been exposed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Staying home if you have suspected or confirmed COVID-19.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seeking treatment if you have COVID-19 and are at high risk of getting very sick.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoiding contact with people who have suspected or confirmed COVID-19.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/covid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Learn More About COVID-19 From the CDC<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section id=\"measles\" class=\"shs-block block-section grid-container has-white-background-color\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"entry-content\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Measles <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that spreads through the air and poses significant health risks, especially for the unvaccinated.&nbsp;Measles symptoms typically appear 7 to 14 days after exposure to the virus. Early signs include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>High fever (which may spike above 104\u00b0F).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tiny white spots inside the mouth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A red, blotchy rash usually appears about three to five days after the initial symptoms, starting on the face and spreading downward to the rest of the body. Severe complications, such as pneumonia, encephalitis or even death, can occur, particularly in young children and immunocompromised individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because measles is highly contagious, we recommend calling before visiting your physician\u2019s office, a walk-in clinic or the emergency department. This allows us to take appropriate precautions to keep you and other patients safe when you arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prevention<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The measles, mumps and rubella \u2013 or MMR \u2013 vaccine is highly effective, with two doses providing approximately 97% protection against measles.
