{"id":59086,"date":"2025-07-10T08:52:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T15:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/samhealth.org\/?p=59086"},"modified":"2025-07-10T10:56:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T17:56:13","slug":"extreme-weather-support-is-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/samhealth.org\/news\/extreme-weather-support-is-available\/","title":{"rendered":"Extreme Weather Support Is Available for Qualified Medicaid Members"},"content":{"rendered":"<article class=\"article\">\n\t<header class=\"header\">\n\t\t<span class=\"type\"><\/span>\t\t<h1>Extreme Weather Support Is Available for Qualified Medicaid Members<\/h1>\t\t<time>July 10, 2025<\/time>\n\t<\/header>\n\t<div id=\"block_c2a21b2fb8a58e829690378803cd9d96\" class=\"shs-block block-news-article entry-content\">\n\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<p>From heat waves to snowstorms or freezing rain, extreme weather can have a major impact on your health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To reduce the health risks posed by severe weather, Oregon Health Authority offers climate support services to qualified Medicaid members on the Oregon Health Plan \u2014 including <a href=\"https:\/\/ihntogether.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">InterCommunity Health Network CCO<\/a> members \u2014 to help ensure their safety and well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Supports Include<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Portable heaters to provide warmth during cold spells, preventing health issues related to low and freezing temperatures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Portable power supplies to keep medical devices such as ventilators operational during power outages, ensuring continuous medical support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mini refrigeration units to store medications that require refrigeration, ensuring they remain effective.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Air conditioners to combat heat-related illnesses during scorching summer months.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Air filtration devices to protect against the harmful effects of wildfire smoke, ensuring clean, breathable air.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who Qualifies for Climate Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Climate support is a health-related social needs service, and Oregon\u2019s 1115 Medicaid waiver allows Oregon Health Plan to cover this service for eligible members facing certain life circumstances. IHN-CCO members may be eligible for extreme weather support if they have a health condition that makes climate events challenging or dangerous, live in a place with electricity and can use the device safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Request Services<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To learn more about climate support and eligibility, IHN-CCO members may call the 211info Coordination Center at <a href=\"tel:503-468-5375\">503-468-5375<\/a> (TTY <a href=\"tel:866-698-6155\">866-698-6155<\/a> or <a href=\"tel:711\">711<\/a>), or email <a href=\"mailto:HRSN@211info.org\">HRSN@211info.org<\/a>.
