While this is often highly effective, risk of affecting non-cancerous organs like the rectum are possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur team is committed to providing the best possible care for our patients,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/samhealth.org\/patients-visitors\/find-a-doctor\/ross-wopat-md\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Urologist Ross Wopat, MD<\/a>, with Samaritan Urology. \u201cThat is why we\u2019ve adopted an innovative technology, SpaceOAR Hydrogel, which reduces exposure to non-cancerous organs during prostate radiation therapy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SpaceOAR Hydrogel is an absorbable gel that temporarily creates space between the prostate and rectum. It is designed to reduce the radiation dose delivered to the rectum during prostate radiation therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe tremendously appreciate the SpaceOar program spearheaded by Dr.Wopat,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/samhealth.org\/patients-visitors\/find-a-doctor\/mcgowan-patrice-1841209376\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Radiation Oncologist Patrice McGowan, MD<\/a>, with Samaritan Radiation Oncology. \u201cDuring patient consultation we discuss treatment approaches, such as surgery or radiation therapy, to address their prostate cancer. If radiation is the preferred treatment option we engage Dr.Wopat to arrange for placement of SpaceOar.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-center-of-excellence-earned\">Center of Excellence Earned<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The coordination of care between urology and radiation oncology contributes to treatment success.
