{"id":24259,"date":"2022-10-22T11:16:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-22T18:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/samhealth.org\/?p=24259"},"modified":"2023-12-07T08:00:22","modified_gmt":"2023-12-07T16:00:22","slug":"samaritan-joins-local-dignitaries-for-crisis-center-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/samhealth.org\/news\/samaritan-joins-local-dignitaries-for-crisis-center-visit\/","title":{"rendered":"Samaritan Joins Local Dignitaries for Crisis Center Visit"},"content":{"rendered":"<article class=\"article\">\n\t<header class=\"header\">\n\t\t<span class=\"type\"><\/span>\t\t<h1>Samaritan Joins Local Dignitaries for Crisis Center Visit<\/h1>\t\t<time>October 22, 2022<\/time>\n\t<\/header>\n\t<div id=\"block_b7dd140ca0c4cd0acf4b9042e181d552\" class=\"shs-block block-news-article entry-content\">\n\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<p>Samaritan Health Services CEO Doug Boysen joined dignitaries including U.S. Senator Ron Wyden for a press conference on mental health concerns before a tour of the planned Benton County Crisis Center build site on Monday, Oct. 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 30 people gathered next door at the Benton County Government Complex to listen to the speakers share an overview of the mental health crisis in the community before touring the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI believe health care is local,\u201d Boysen said in his speech. \u201cEvery community is unique. It takes local leaders and community stakeholders working together to develop something that\u2019s going to really meet the needs of that community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wyden briefly shared the struggles his late brother Jeffrey had with mental illness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joining Wyden and Boysen as speakers at the event were Benton County Sheriff Jef Van Arsdall, Benton County Health Director Damien Sands and Benton County Project Manager Ricky Garcia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday, we are working diligently to ensure the best possible outcome for the Benton County Crisis Center,\u201d said Garcia. &nbsp;\u201cThis crisis center will serve as another door to connect individuals with support they need, a place where people can get help when they need help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project area, located on the corner of NW Fourth Street and NW Van Buren Avenue, was a former service station, and most recently a used car lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boysen, Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center CEO Laura Hennum and Samaritan Health Plans Interim Director of Behavioral Health Todd Jeter joined the tour of the site with the design committee and the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The design committee has been working together to create a space that is safe, trauma-informed, accessible, welcoming and meets the unique needs of local residents.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Design committee member organizations include: Benton County Health Department, Benton County Public Works, Mahlum Architects, Gerding Builders, Samaritan Health Services, InterCommunity Health Network, Pathfinder Clubhouse, Corvallis Daytime Drop-In Center, Strengthening Rural Families and Oregon State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The crisis center\u2019s business model is to divert individuals from higher level care facilities such as Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center to a safe and supportive environment where individuals can receive support and stabilization services for up to 29 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think if the pandemic has taught us anything, if we all work together and come up with solutions, we\u2019re going to be stronger going forward,\u201d said Boysen. \u201cThis crisis center has been a true community collaboration.
