Vaccination Opportunities Near You<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vaccines are available to protect against the hMPXV virus, also known as mpox (and formerly called monkeypox). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting vaccinated before you are exposed to mpox provides the best chance to prevent disease. If you have already been exposed, getting vaccinated as soon as possible, ideally within 4 days, may help prevent the disease or make it less severe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vaccination for mpox is free to patients and is available by appointment at Samaritan Infectious Disease – Corvallis<\/a>. (Supplies may be limited.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mpox vaccination is also available at local public health departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who Should Get Vaccinated<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Oregon Health Authority recommends mpox vaccination for the following people: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • People who have been identified by public health as a contact of someone with mpox.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • People who have had close contact in the prior two weeks with someone with mpox.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • People who are at greater risk of mpox infection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Laboratory workers who routinely perform mpox virus testing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Clinicians who have had a high-risk occupational exposure (e.g., examined mpox lesions or collected mpox specimens without using recommended personal protective equipment).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Additional Ways to Prevent Mpox<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Take the following three steps to prevent getting mpox:

    1.  Avoid close, skin-to-skin contact with people who have a rash that looks like mpox.<\/strong>
    Do not touch the rash or scabs of a person with mpox.
    Do not kiss, hug, cuddle or have sex with someone with mpox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    2. Avoid contact with objects and materials that a person with mpox has used.<\/strong>
    Do not share eating utensils or cups with a person with mpox.
    Do not handle or touch the bedding, towels, or clothing of a person with mpox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    3. Wash your hands often.<\/strong>
