Oh the crying! The first few weeks at home you will be learning your baby\u2019s behavior patterns. Infant crying has been researched and the <a href=\"https:\/\/dontshake.org\/purple-crying\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Period of Purple Crying<\/a>&nbsp;is a normal part of a baby\u2019s development beginning at about 2 weeks. Do your best to take care of yourself by following these tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Try to get enough rest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eat a balanced diet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spend a little time away from the baby each day (a few minutes for a quiet bath, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take a walk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Share your feelings with a partner, close friend or family member.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/samhealth.org\/events\/list\/?tribe-bar-search=mothers+support+group\">local support system<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give yourself time to heal and rest. As you recover from giving birth and adjust to being a parent, you may feel overwhelmed leaving you tearful, exhausted and irritable.<br><br>Don\u2019t go it alone! If you can\u2019t shake your blues and have sadness, anxiety, despair or hopelessness, you may be experiencing postpartum depression. Call your medical provider or maternity care coordinator.<br><br>If you are not sure, we encourage you to download a 10 question survey that will give you a good idea if you are experiencing depression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-left is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-fdcfc74e wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/samhealth.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Depression-Screening-323.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Download Questionnaire<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section id=\"block_7517b3569a1d044776fa8672f6cd008c\" class=\"shs-block block-section grid-container has-white-background-color\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"entry-content\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cSafe to Sleep\u201d for Your Little One<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/safetosleep.nichd.nih.gov\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Safe to Sleep Program<\/a> provides evidence-based guidelines to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and infant sleep-related deaths.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Safest<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Place your baby on his or her back to sleep&nbsp;for naps and at night.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Put babies to sleep in their own space.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Put your baby in a crib, bassinet&nbsp;or portable play yard with a firm&nbsp;mattress and tight-fitting sheet.&nbsp;No other items including crib bumpers should be in the crib.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a firm and flat mattress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avoid<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sharing your bed. While room sharing&nbsp;is encouraged, it is unsafe to a baby&nbsp;to sleep in a bed with any adult or&nbsp;child or sleep in or on a chair or couch.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overheating your baby while sleeping.&nbsp;Dress in a one piece sleeper or a sleep&nbsp;sack and keep temperature of room at&nbsp;a level comfortable to an adult, about&nbsp;65 to 71 degrees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Smoking, drinking alcohol or using&nbsp;drugs that alter your awareness while&nbsp;pregnant or caring for an infant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section id=\"block_704563fcb85a1f3505574206ebedc861\" class=\"shs-block block-section grid-container has-blue-primary-background-color\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"entry-content\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Well-Baby Visits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You will see your <a href=\"https:\/\/samhealth.org\/patient-visitors\/find-a-doctor\/?_specialties=pediatrics\">baby\u2019s&nbsp;doctor&nbsp;<\/a>for your well-baby appointments and there will be&nbsp;<em>many<\/em>&nbsp;the first year including the first week, month, and then at 2, 4, 6 and 9 months and then at a year! These appointments are an important time to check-in with your provider, ask questions about your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/infantandnewborndevelopment.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">baby\u2019s development<\/a>&nbsp;and ensure that your baby gets&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/hcp\/imz-schedules\/child-adolescent-age.html?CDC_AAref_Val=https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/schedules\/hcp\/imz\/child-adolescent.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">immunized<\/a>&nbsp;from certain diseases.
