A sample of the Family Medicine curriculum is listed below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Intern Year<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Continuity clinic will be each week except when on away rotations. Days in Continuity Clinic are adjusted per rotation. All residents are limited to one half day of clinic per week while on inpatient rotations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Ambulatory Care\/Welcome<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>This is primarily a team and foundation building block rotation &#8211; getting to know your team, the clinic and other critical residency components. You\u2019ll also become certified in NRP, ALSO and PALS.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Inpatient Medicine<\/td><td>12 weeks<\/td><td>This is a rigorous rotation with our Family Medicine Teaching Service (FMTS).&nbsp;The first four weeks are in a block, the subsequent eight weeks are divided into two-week blocks and spread throughout the year.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Inpatient Pediatrics<\/td><td>8 weeks<\/td><td>The first four weeks are spent at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center (GSRMC) with excellent exposure to nursery and some exposure to sick hospitalized children, and the next four weeks are spent at Randall Children\u2019s Hospital in Portland, Ore., a regional hub for high acuity pediatric care.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Obstetrics<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>Working with our OB\/GYN and Midwife colleagues at GSRMC.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Outpatient Pediatrics<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>Working with one of our community pediatricians.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Sports medicine<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>Working at Samaritan Athletic Medicine on the Oregon State University campus with patients from the community as well as OSU athletes.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Continuity Clinic<\/td><td>16 weeks and longitudinal<\/td><td>This is the bedrock of your training experience managing your own panel of patients in our residency group practice, an Oregon Health Authority five star designated PCPCH.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-second-year\"><strong>Second Year<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Continuity clinic will be each week except when on away rotations. Days in Continuity Clinic are adjusted per rotation. All residents are limited to one half day of clinic per week while on inpatient rotations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Inpatient Medicine<\/td><td>6 weeks<\/td><td>Three two-week rotations helping lead the FMTS.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Rural Inpatient Medicine<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>Two two-week rotations at Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital helps push your clinical autonomy in this critical access hospital.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Obstetrics<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>Working with our OB\/GYN and Midwife colleagues at GSRMC.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>ICU<\/td><td>2 weeks<\/td><td>Managing ICU patients at GSRMC with the Intensive Care team.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Inpatient Cardiology<\/td><td>2 weeks<\/td><td>Two weeks with the academic cardiology service at GSRMC.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Emergency Medicine<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>Two two-week rotations at GSRMC, a regional level 2 trauma center.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Urgent Care<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>A popular rotation working primarily with Family Medicine Urgent Care physicians focusing on triage, procedures and efficiency.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Dermatology<\/td><td>2 weeks<\/td><td>Exposure to a wide variety of dermatology conditions, as well as treatments, procedures and Mohs surgery.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Outpatient Pediatrics<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>Working with one of our community pediatricians.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Continuity Clinic<\/td><td>8 weeks and longitudinal<\/td><td>This is the bedrock of your training experience, managing your own panel of patients in our residency group practice, an Oregon Health Authority 5 star designated PCPCH.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Electives<\/td><td>12 weeks<\/td><td>Twelve weeks total of two- or four-week block experiences with a long list of prior electives and flexibility to explore what\u2019s important to you.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-third-year\"><strong>Third Year<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Continuity clinic will be each week except when on away rotations. All residents are limited to one half day of clinic per week while on inpatient rotations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Inpatient Medicine<\/td><td>6 weeks<\/td><td>Three two-week rotations leading the FMTS, ideally functioning as a Jr. attending.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Obstetrics<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>Four weeks at GSRMC or Samaritan Albany General Hospital.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Pediatric Emergency Medicine<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>Managing pediatric patients presenting to the Emergency Room at Providence St. Vincent in Portland, Ore.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Outpatient Gen Surg and Wound Care<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>A mixture of bariatric surgery and wound care.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Hospice and Palliative Care<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>A blend of inpatient palliative care with the palliative care consult service and hospice with Evergreen Hospice service.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Sports Medicine<\/td><td>4 weeks<\/td><td>Working at Samaritan Athletic Medicine on the Oregon State University campus with patients from the community as well as OSU athletes.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Continuity Clinic<\/td><td>14 weeks and longitudinal<\/td><td>This is the bedrock of your training experience managing your own panel of patients in our residency group practice, an Oregon Health Authority 5 star designated PCPCH.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Electives<\/td><td>12 weeks<\/td><td>Twelve weeks total of two- or 4-week block experiences with a long list of prior electives and flexibility to explore what\u2019s important to you.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Longitudinal Experiences<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Gynecology<\/td><td>In our in-house OB\/GYN clinic and\/or working with our OB\/GYN colleagues.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Geriatrics<\/td><td>Rounding at a local nursing home with our geriatrician partners.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Community Medicine<\/td><td>Working at a free clinic in Corvallis and Albany.&nbsp; Developing exposures to street medicine and farm worker medicine.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Addiction Medicine<\/td><td>Work with Samaritan Treatment and Recovery Service.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Outpatient Obstetrics<\/td><td>You\u2019ll be assigned a \u201cCentering\u201d group of pregnant patients and partner with OB and Midwife colleagues.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Behavioral Health<\/td><td>Work on developing micro-skills and macro-skills with our Residency behaviorist.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section id=\"Meet\" class=\"shs-block block-section grid-container has-blue-light-background-color\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"entry-content\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-meet-family-medicine-faculty-nbsp-amp-residents\">Didactics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our didactic program is a two-year rotating curriculum focused on the tenets of family medicine with simulation and procedural experiences.&nbsp;This takes place every Wednesday afternoon where you are protected from clinic and rotation duties.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\t<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section id=\"block_ae7295ac6d1f4185c9b60f32d611c647\" class=\"shs-block block-section grid-container has-gray-cool-background-color\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"entry-content\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scholarly Activity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During your residency training, you will participate in two scholarly activities. We have two goals for all residents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To be able to conduct a quality improvement project as well as be able to incorporate evidence into practice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To incorporate evidence into practice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Samaritan Health Services has a medical library and librarian to help you gather you research and articles.
